Born in Hiroshima, Japan, in 1938, Issey Miyake majored in graphic design before moving to Paris in 1996. There he started working at the French couturier Guy Laroche and 2 years later at Givenchy. In 1970, he founded the Miyake Design studio and whilst also showcasing his designs at Vogue and Bloomingdale's, where he succeded on getting a small store section. In 1973, he got invited to Paris to join a group show where he established himself and later opened 2 stores. Issey Miyake is considered the father of Japanese avant garde norm breaking fashion.
